Hope for a sustainable future: positive facts about climate change

Let's put some positivity out there! The fight against climate change can seem daunting, but there are positive developments we can - and should - highlight.

Forest restoration could remove 10 years’ worth of carbon emissions. According to a recent study published in the journal Science, restoring degraded forests on a global scale could remove the equivalent of 10 years’ worth of carbon emissions from the atmosphere. The study estimates that there are 0.9 billion hectares of degraded land worldwide that could be restored to forest, which would remove an estimated 205 gigatons of carbon from the atmosphere. This underscores the importance of reforestation and forest restoration efforts in mitigating the effects of climate change.

Climate action can create jobs and boost the economy.

According to a report from the International Labour Organization (ILO), the transition to a low-carbon economy could create up to 24 million new jobs globally by 2030, while also helping to reduce poverty and inequality. Investing in renewable energy and other climate-friendly technologies can stimulate economic growth and innovation.
