It’s easy to overlook small wins when you’re working remotely: out of sight, out of sync.

But in reality, small moments of recognition are the glue that hold teams together.

As someone who works behind the scenes, I’ve seen how a little celebration goes a long way.

Why celebrate the small stuff?

  • Builds connection and trust

  • Keeps motivation steady

  • Encourages autonomy and creativity

  • Counters the “never enough” feeling that can sneak in

Quick and simple ways to celebrate in a remote world

  • “Win of the Week” Slack Channel: Invite team members to share something they’re proud of.

  • Virtual Applause Board: A shared doc or space where people can post shout-outs or thanks.

  • E-cards or Voice Notes: Personal, quick, and meaningful.

  • Monthly Recognition Ritual: Nominate someone for something specific, like creative problem-solving.

My favourite?

A round of weekly wins at the end of a regular meeting with one of my customer.

The team has taken this on board so quickly that I know it's needed and appreciated.

Small celebrations don’t require a budget—they require attention.

And when your team feels seen, supported, and appreciated, they rise.
